SMST 3D crane for Edison Chouest SOV18/09/2023
SMST is rapidly expanding its presence in the emerging U.S. offshore wind industry. Recently, Marine Procurement Ltd (MPL) based in Scotland has awarded SMST a contract for the delivery of a 5t Motion Compensated Crane to operate for the Empire Wind project, located offshore New York. The SMST crane with 3D motion compensated knuckle, a new development for the U.S. offshore market, will support the newbuild Service Operation Vessel (SOV) for Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) with safe and reliable lifting of cargo on board.
The Motion Compensated Crane (M-Series) for the new build vessel will be delivered in Q4-2024. “We are very pleased to support the energy transition in the U.S. with our 3D crane,” says Jochem Tuinstra, Sales Manager at SMST, “By adding our crane, that guarantees high workability, to the new Edison Chouest’s SOV, the operational efficiency of the vessel’s equipment is brought to the next level.”
Even though the Motion Compensated Crane is the first to be supplied to the SOV market in the U.S., it is already a proven concept in various parts of the world. “SMST has an impressive track record and we are convinced that the crane will perform well and in a very reliable manner. Additionally, we believe SMST is the right partner for MPL and ECO, since SMST offers the entire process in-house, including lifetime support and worldwide service,” states Mark Duns, Project Manager for Marine Procurement Ltd, “We look forward to a collaboration that brings together partners that strive for optimal results in the development of the U.S. offshore wind industry.”
